Great North Run for New Landia Chopper Pumps

For sludge tank mixing applications in the North of England, a total of three Landia Chopper Pumps have now replaced units that were causing irritating operational and financial issues for a water company.

Frustrated not only by a broken seal, but the prohibitive cost and time delay to replace it, the water company first switched one sludge tank’s pumping and mixing duties to a Landia Chopper Pump, with immediate positive results.

A further two of the failing costly pumps have both also now been replaced by the Landia Chopper Pump, which is in its 75th year.

In addition to the broken seals, exorbitant parts’ costs and excessive waiting times, the existing pumps were causing the water company unanticipated labour because they also required constant adjustment, whereas the long-proven Landia Chopper Pump (the world’s first, back in 1950) does not.

“Furthermore,” reports Landia’s Howard Burton, “our pumps, being close-coupled, have far smaller footprints.  This means they can slot into more confined spaces, and so can be used in applications where larger pumps simply won’t fit.”

He added: “The water company says that the level of pumping and mixing for the sludge tanks is still every bit as effective, if not better, and without all of the burdens caused by the troublesome and increasingly expensive previous units.”
